יָעַד, וָעַד(b. h.; v. עוד) to appoint; denom. מוֹעֵד. Pi. 1) יִעַד, יִי׳ to designate, esp. to designate a Hebrew handmaid to be a freemans wife (Ex. 21:8, sq.). Kidd.19a צריך ליַעֲדָהּ he must express to her her designation, i. e. בקדושי יעוד by betrothal through designation, v. יִעוּד.
